About the role
This is an Identified First Nations role within Family and Child Connect, supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.
The role exists to strengthen culturally safe engagement, improve access to services and support better outcomes for First Nations families. The First Nations Family Response Facilitator plays a key role in engaging families, supporting their connection to FaCC and referred services and providing cultural advice and guidance to the wider FaCC team.
This role works alongside other FaCC practitioners within an assessment and referral service and contributes to informed, culturally responsive decision-making.
This is an Identified position. Applicants must identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. This requirement is permitted under sections 25, 104 and 105 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld).
What you will do
In this role, you will:
- Yarn with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people and families to understand their circumstances and support their engagement with FaCC
- Support families to connect with First Nations services, community supports and other relevant programs
- Liaise with and maintain strong relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander service partners and community networks
- Provide culturally appropriate advice and input, within the scope of the role, to support FaCC staff in their work with First Nations families
- Contribute to assessment and referral processes by sharing cultural knowledge, local context and family perspectives
- Work alongside other agencies to support coordinated and joined-up responses for families
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to a respectful, culturally safe team environment
What we’re looking for:
- You identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
- You hold a relevant tertiary qualification in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Child Protection or a related field, OR significant demonstrated experience in a First Nations community-based role involving family support, engagement and referral within a child and family service context
- You have strong cultural connections and the ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, community and service partners
- You have experience supporting families to navigate service systems and engage with referrals
- You have the ability to contribute to assessment and decision-making processes through professional judgement and cultural insight
- You hold a commitment to culturally safe and respectful practice
- You have the ability to use IT systems and maintain accurate records
- You have the ability to obtain a Working with Children Check (Blue Card)
- You hold a Queensland driver licence
- You have the Whooping cough vaccination or a willingness to obtain one before starting

Pay and conditions
This role is classified under the SCHADS Award Level 4. The base salary for this position ranges from approximately $88,000 to $95,000 per year, depending on skills and experience. Salary packaging benefits are available, increasing take-home pay.
