About the role
Mercy Community has an opportunity for an experienced Financial Accountant to join our Corporate Team based in Nudgee. This a Permanent Full-Time position.
This position is responsible for the end of month process, ownership of Balance Sheet accounts, assist the Finance Manager in the delivery of financial reporting, financial prudential compliance, assist with GST/FBT, ensuring data integrity in the general ledger, assistance with process improvements, and guidance to the Finance Transactional Team as required.
Salary: Commensurate with experience plus super plus NFP salary packaging available
What you’ll be doing
Key responsibilities include:
- Assist with the preparation of year-end statutory financial statements, ensuring compliance with Australian Accounting Standards. Liaising with external auditors to resolve audit queries in a timely manner.
- Prepare and review monthly accounting journals, involving complex data manipulation from source documents
- Review and maintain the Fixed Assets Register
- Assist the Finance Manager with technical accounting areas, such as Lease accounting (AASB 16) and recognition of Investment portfolio journals and reconciliations (AASB 9)
- Prepare and review accruals, prepayments and monthly payroll related accruals
- Complete and own all balance sheet reconciliations across the group
- Assist the Finance Manager with all accounting reporting requirements
- Assist with GST and FBT calculations, lodgement and reporting
- Monitor and maintain compliance with internal controls
- Assess effectiveness of internal controls and identify improvements.
- Monitor prudential compliance
- Provide guidance to the Assistant Accountant and finance officers (as required), ensuring that correct procedures are being followed and deadlines are met
- Other ad hoc tasks
About you
- Tertiary degree in Accounting or Business or Commerce
- CA/CPA qualifications
- Proven experience in a Financial Accountant or Senior Financial Accountant
- Experience using a mid-tier ERP essential (TechOne is highly advantageous)
- Experience using Epicor (highly advantageous)
- Strong organisation and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines
