The Role
Mercy Community is seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join our Legal, Governance and Risk Team. This role is a Permanent Full-Time role based at our Nudgee office with hybrid working options available..
Reporting to the General Counsel & Company Secretary, the Senior Legal Counsel will provide commercially focussed legal advice and play a key role in the management of legal matters, providing high quality support and advice to the
organisation. This is an exciting time to join Mercy Community as we introduce a new strategic plan and revise our organisational mission. Mercy Community provides a purposed focused, fast-paced working environment with a great variety of work and matters.
Key responsibilities include:
- providing commercially focussed legal advice on a range of matters, including general commercial and contractual advice, legislative and regulatory obligations and compliance (including in aged care, retirement villages, child protection), privacy law, labour hire, and employment matters;
- assisting with responding to and liaising with regulators
- acting as Privacy Officer and responding to requests for personal information, subpoenas etc;
- assisting with insurance matters;
- assisting in dispute resolution
- drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various contracts, including brokerage agreements, supply of goods and/or services agreements, IT agreements, and government contracts
- Review and advise on legislation applicable to the service streams
Salary commensurate with experience plus superannuation plus salary packaging available
About you
To be successful, you will:
- hold a Bachelor of Laws
- be qualified as a Legal Practitioner in Queensland and hold a current unrestricted practising certificate
- have prior experience practising in a heavily regulated environment and knowledge of government agreements and contracts
- strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels of the organisation
- Be values focused, with the ability to role model the organisation’s mission and values
- be agile and responsive to the organisation’s needs and have the ability to manage conflicting priorities and tight deadlines
