About the Role

Mercy Community is seeking a passionate and engaging Case Worker to join our New Families team. This is a Permanent Full-time role based in Nudgee. This role is a Monday to Friday based role but On-Call will be required as part of our rotating roster process.

The successful applicant for the role will be supporting vulnerable mothers and their babies in the Intensive Support House (ISH) and the community, aiming to reduce the need for more intrusive interventions. The Caseworker helps mothers improve their life skills, well-being, and parenting abilities, build secure attachments with their babies, and provides education and referrals for issues like domestic violence, mental health, and substance misuse, connecting families with community agencies for long-term support. 

$85,126.00 per annum (SCHADS L4) plus superannuation plus salary packaging available 

This role involves but not limited to -

  • Complete holistic and comprehensive assessments of the needs of the mother and baby, including risk assessments, and develop tailored plans and interventions to address these needs
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate family support plans to establish a comprehensive framework for child protection, risk assessment, and family support
  • Coordinate and facilitate program referrals in line with funding and protocols, ensuring appropriate post-intervention support
  • Liaise closely with the Department of Child Safety, Seniors, and Disability Services in line with the ongoing assessment of families
  • Provide in-home support to mothers in the community and in the Intensive Support House (ISH) and targeted interventions that meet the assessed needs of the family
  • Facilitate an interagency network for ongoing community support

About you

As the successful applicant, you will possess:

  • Completed Bachelor’s Degree (or above) in Social Work, Behavioural Sciences, Psychology, or a related discipline, along with relevant experience supporting vulnerable families and children
  • Understanding of issues affecting families subject to statutory involvement, including but not limited to: Domestic and Family Violence; child protection; substance misuse; mental health; child development; trauma; and attachment
  • Current and valid Paid Blue Card (Queensland Working With Children Check) or ability to apply
  • Queensland Provisional Green or above Driver Licence
  • First Aid and CPR Certificate (or willingness to obtain prior to commencement)
  • Evidence of current vaccination against whooping cough (or willingness to obtain prior to commencement)
