Coordinator - New Families Program (Nudgee)

About the Role

The New Families Program currently has a vacancy for a Coordinator to join the Mercy Community on a Permanent full-time basis.  Supporting the Brisbane District of the Moreton Bay Region, this position will be based at Nudgee.

This position is responsible for the direct supervision, mentoring and support of mothers and staff of the Intensive Support House (ISH). This includes ensuring mothers are provided with a safe and supportive environment, where they are given the opportunity to learn safe and appropriate parenting practices to meet the protective needs of their babies. In addition, this role includes ensuring the efficient operation of the house in the program.

The role includes regular education, support and supervision of Family Support Workers to ensure that the program has an effective and responsive team, and is responsible for the mentoring, support and assessment of mothers who are parenting their babies who are involved in the statutory child protection system.

 

$93,860 - $98,108 per annum (award) plus superannuation plus generous salary packaging available

 

What you’ll be doing

  • Provision of direct support, education and guidance to residents of the ISH to assist young mothers to develop appropriate and safe parenting practices in order to meet the daily care and protective needs of their babies
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date knowledge is maintained and utilised in the program in relation to safe parenting practices based on contemporary research, literature and parenting practices within the child and maternal health field
  • In conjunction with the Caseworker, contribute to the development of the Care Plans and support staff to implement these within the program
  • Maintain the day-to-day operation and ambience of the ISH, including maintaining the physical and emotional ambience of the home and undertake household chores, as required
  • Maintain, and be accountable for, program resources including staffing, house maintenance, and monetary resources in line with delegations framework

 

About you

  • You have a tertiary qualification in Social Work, Behavioural Sciences, Psychology, Nursing or related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in working with families and babies, particularly in relation to the development of safe parenting practices
  • Previous experience in development of an effective team with a culture of high performance  
  • Demonstrated intermediate ability to use computer IT systems including MS Word and Excel
  • Hold a Queensland Provisional Green (P2) or above Driver’s License
  • Ability to obtain positive notice in the Working with Children Check (Blue Card) and any other legislatively required personal history screening as required
  • Be able to provide evidence of current vaccination against whooping cough or willingness to obtain prior to commencement
  • First Aid and CPR Certificate or be prepared to obtain a First Aid and CPR Certificate
